Error on P6 installation

Shahul,

Perhaps you are having issues because you did not completely uninstalled SQL Server Management Studio as per JL post #3, recommendation no 2 “Find and remove all traces of SQL Server 2005 - files and folders. (use Windows - Control Panel - Add/Remove)”

First of all remember to backup your files to a separate hard disk, messing with the registry and operating system is risky. Recommend a full backup as some programs store data files in folders other than My Documents, otherwise you might end up losing your most valuable data.

You can use these docs for uninstalling your 2005 sql instance based on your requirement.

Hi Shahul,

Sounds like yout operating system has a problem that needs to be sorted i.e. reload etc.

- I run a Standalone System on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 installed, works a treat.

- I beleive it can also run on Vista Business Edition with Service Pack 1 installed.

- Not sure about running on Windows 7 - but Jay has achieved it - so perhaps the way to go - (well done Jay).

- Have you checked the P6 Tested Configurations against what your PC is running on. This pdf can be downloaded from the Oracle E-Delivery system

i.e. http:/edelivery.oracle.com/EPD/Download/get-form ,

or should be on one of your disks (try under Documentation).

- Also check what version of Internet Explore are you using

It should work - so easy to load up etc.

Regards

John

Hi Shahul,

I could suggest you to back up your files first. Reformat and upgrade your computer into Windows 7 then try to install again your P6.

That’s what I did and it works well.

Good luck.

Hi Shahul,

A lot depeds on what type of a P6 installation are you trying to make.

If its a standalone Windows XP installation you could try the following - (have recently carried out this on my Standalone P6.2.1 installation and it worked!!!!):

1) Make Sure you have completly removed P6 from your Program Files. (Use the Primavera Disks to remove & then remove the folder / sub folders for Primavera.

2) Find and remove all traces of SQL Server 2005 - files and folders. (use Windows - Control Pannel - Add/Remove)

3) Make sure you have IIS (Microsoft Internet Information Services) loaded on your PC - if not down load it from your XP system disks. (Use Windows - Control Pannel - Add/Remove)

4) Make sure you are using MSXML version 6 - if you have a higher version i.e. 6.2 delete it, do this by down loading a file from Windows called "Installer Clean Up from Microsoft". Don’t worry about installing MSXML - this will be done when you run the setup from Primavera.(MSXML is used to install the SQL Database Engine - that runs Primavera).

5) Try running the Primavera disks now - however you will need your License file and Product Code ready to install when requested.

6) If it runs, the system may not work. It may not bring over "SLQ Server Management Studio Express" - This can be down loaded from Microsoft (2005 version) - and installed.

7) Now remove P6 again - use the Primavera Disks - but do not touch the SLQ files.

8) Now reload the P6 - you will have to config the databases - i.e. PMDB & MMDB - pubuser and with a password pubuser.

9) Best of luck.

Hi Shahul

The best way to rectify it is to abandon P6 and use a proper bit of software.

Best regards
