Promotion of activity codes in Oracle Primavera P6

QUESTION

Dear Mr P6 Civils,

I know you can promote activity codes in P6.  What I want to know can you promote project codes to EPS codes and EPS codes to Global Codes or is it just promoting project codes to Global Codes.  I have promoted codes before I just cannot remember if there is a hierarchy of the codes or not.

Regards…

SUGGESTED ANSWER

Activity Codes in Primavera P6 can be created at three different levels.

·         Project level Activity Codes

·         EPS level Activity Codes

·         Global level Activity Codes

To begin, go to the text menu at the top of the Activity window select  Enterprise > Activity Codes to bring up the Activity Code dialog box. Please note the three levels at the top of the screen. In this case the Project level Activity Codes are displayed. To view other levels, select the appropriate radio button.

To promote a Project level Activity Code, please select the MODIFY button to the left of the Activity Code. (As a general note, please remember that NRG00950 –Resp displayed above is the actual Activity Code while the Eng, Con and Cli are called Code Values.)

The MODIFY button will bring up the Activity Code Definitions dialog box shown below.

From this screen you have the ability to promote any Activity Code selected to either the EPS or Global level.  If your initial Activity Code is at the EPS level, you can promote it to the Global level. At this time there are no provisions to demote Activity Codes, which is probably a good thing.

I hope that this was helpful.
