Defining Activity Codes in Primavera 6 R8.1

What are Activity Codes in P6?

Activity codes can be assumed as Categories under which we categorize the activities. E.g. if a project has 3000 activities then it is very hard to manage all the activities or to filter out some specific activities. To overcome this issue, we categorize the activities based on some parameters. Let us suppose, we categorize the activities based on different phases of the project. Then we can define activity code as “Phase”.

FWBS:

Generally FWBS (Functional Work Break Down Structure) is used for the activities categorization. Now the FWBS can be defined in P6 as Activity Codes as well as WBS (Work Break down Structure) . I will prefer to use Activity Codes because of its flexibility and it can be assigned to multiple projects.
