Arnold;

Thanks again. Tried to find you on LinkedIn. Will try to link to you here - not sure how.

You are a great resource.

Arnold;

I second the endorsement from Jose. Could I trouble you for the link to the WBS file? I tried replacing Activity6x with WBS (uc & lc) to no avail.

Pat yourself on the back. You are great resource even though you work in the dirt - hydrocarbons are ever so much cleaner and healthier.

Arnold;

Any idea where I find it? Looked in POINT and only reference was to the file on the 6.1 CD. Looked at the P6.7 download files and nothing jumped out. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Any insights into Project.xls and WBS.xls? First time I have heard of them. Activity6x.xls could have real value.

Member for

Hi Dennis,

The formerly "PMSDK" in P6x is now "Primavera P6 SDK" in P6 v7.

With regards to the following utilities:

1. Activity6x.xls

2. Dictionary6x.xls

3. PROJECT.xls

4. WBS.xls

You can still use these the same as the previous version.

Regards,

Arnold

Has anyone got Activity6x.xls and/or Dictionary6x.xls to work with P6.7? The update removes PMSDK, I believe. Is there a workaround? Thanks.

Member for

Milind,

Thank you for this. My bad, i thought it was the same feature installed in the P6.

Thanks again.

Izam i am sending you some links to get Import and export tool for P6

http://knowledgebase.primavera.com/lnattach/858_2003730124645_ImpExp.zip

http://knowledgebase.primavera.com/lnattach/858_2003730124645_Using%20t…

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Primavera Software Development Kit (SDK) must be installed prior to running this application.

2. A valid SDK ODBC Datasource (System DSN) must be established connecting to the Current Database.

IMPORT EXPORT UTILITY TIPS

IMPORT TYPE IS DETERMINED BY THE FIRST COLUMN IN EXCEL:

All Exports created by the utility will generate a column called Action Ins/Upd/Del.

The value of this column determines the type of Import that will be applied for each row.

"I" will Import, "U" will Update and "D" will delete the data in the PMDB database.

By default, this value is set to "U".

USE THE CORRECT FILE FORMAT:

Before Importing, it is best practice to Import from an Excel file that has been

formatted by the utility. To create the correct format for Import, first create a

file by Exporting from the utility, then modify this file with the Import data.

Delete rows if necessary. Do not modify Column Headings or Range Names.

USE THE CORRECT FORMAT FOR VALUES:

Certain column data requires specific values for Importing. For example,

’Activity Status’ can only Import 3 values: ’Not Started’, ’Active’, ’Complete’.

If in doubt, use the utility to Export data from existing Projects. Data that

is generated by Export is in the correct format for Import.

SETTING RESOURCE COST AND QUANTITY:

When Importing multiple columns, data that is "linked" in the software may be re-

calculated to unexpected values. For example, Resource Assignments may have

Cost and Quantity linked or unlinked according to User Preference. Setting the

cost may re-calculate the quantity. To ensure that data is Imported correctly:

1. Limit Imports to include only columns that should be updated.

- If only the Quantity is to be updated, do not import both Quantity and Cost.

2. Insert data that observes Business Rules

- When Importing related columns, observe known formulas

- (ex. Qty * Rate = Cost)

3. Unlink the values if necessary.

- Set Cost Units Linked = ’N’ if Cost and Quantity are not related.

SETTING DATES:

Avoid setting both Planned and Actual Dates in the same Import or Update row.

Set the Status of the Activity to reflect the Dates that are to be set.

For example, set the Activity Status to ’Active’ if the Actual Start is to be

Imported, set the Activity Status to ’Complete’ if the Actual Finish is to be

Imported.

BACKUP THE DATABASE OR EXPORT YOUR PROJECT DATA TO A *.XER FILE

Changes made during Import will change the data in the Database. There is no

’undo’ feature in the utility. It is recommended to make a backup of the project

data or conduct trial run on a copy of the Project to be modified.

Enjoy Import and Export Utility .....Unlimited

Hey Izam,

I believe Milind was talking about the FILE>IMPORT/EXPORT utility of the P6. It’s not a stand alone executable file.

Is it possible for me to have it? "utility for import and Export

importExport.exe" as quote from your post below.

I can be reached via my email aizam.zakaria@sbmoffshore.com

That is a great idea. Just recently I have successfully imported all data using MS SQL, basically everything. In the dictionary.xls there are columns that are read only and we have been trying to figure out how we can update those columns. My theory is those columns can’t really be updated using excel but MS SQL or ACCESS.

I would like to see the ACCESS files and perhaps we can work on it.

Member for

Hi Hannes,

That’s really great! Actually, I have been working out with that but unfortunately NO success especially with Excel. I can use Activity.xls but I am not satisfied with the result.

Can you please send me a copy to my email address: primavera6@live.com after translating.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Adrianne

yes it can be linked as well to Excel as to Access. It is even quit easy. I wrote an article about it, but it is in german. Ill try to translate it this week and will post it here

Hi Adrianne,

As far as I know, unfortunately No.

Thanks for the reply arnold. This is the way I am doing it but I was just wondering if by using the SDK the resource type can be changed.

I guess, those methods that you mentioned are the only ones applicable.

By the way, is there a way these can be linked to MS ACCESS? I mean, the whole database.

Thanks again.

Member for

18 years 6 months

Hi Adrianne,

There are two options to do this.

1. Using Resource --> Replace in PM Module

2. Using Excel Sheet

Considering PM Module:

If you want to change the resource type from material to labor then the best thing to do:

1. Create a new resource.

2. Resource Type "Labor".

3. Select all the activities you wanted to change the resource type.

4. Go to "Assign Resources" located at the right corner of your monitor.

5. Select the current assigned resource and select ’Replace".

6. Then select the newly created resource then assign.

Note: You cannot replace resource those activities already has actual.

Arnold

Adrianne there is anothere utility for import and Export

importExport.exe

through that you can import -edit and export again to P6

Member for

I know it’s for P6.

Anyway, is there a way to link P6 to MS Access or Oracle?

I know nothing with MS SQL thus.

Member for

Member for

sorry ..i got the activity6x.xls...

my bad.

Member for

Thanks arnold. One thing that I would like to know about those columns with ’READ ONLY’ note. I understand you cannot modify it from the excel sheet if that’s the case. Is there a way to do that?

Let’s say the resource type to be changed to something else like materials to labor or vice versa...

Also, is there an excel file counterpart of ACTIVITY.XLS of P3 for P6?

Thanks again.
