Project creates a ghost task when linking between projects is this what you are seeing? If it is go to Tools/Options/ on the view tab you will see that there are tick boxes for "Show external predecessors" and "Show external successors" unticking these might be the answer to your problem. Let us know if it is.

Do you want to LINK teaks between different projects?
Do you want to INSERT a project into another project? Seems to be what you want! DO NOT create in the Master project a task to represent the Sub project; select the Master project task above which you want to display the Su project, click Insert, Project.

Cheers Will,
I eventually got it sorted by unticking the "shown external" boxes
