MS Project does copy from the Global.mpt library file into the project file every management tool you want to use. The pro is your file can be transfered from one to another PC and be viewed as it is, the con is the large size of the file.
I have the same problem with a file expanding from 13Mb to 25Mb.
What you need to do is save the file as a Microsoft Access Database and then save it back as a Microsoft project file, this can take some time but it brings the file size down.

Will
