01.4.1 INTRODUCTION

To be clear, executing the project CONTROL plan is NOT the same as executing the PROJECT plan, which is the responsibility of the Project Manager and his/her team. This module is about how the project control team is going to manage the resources they have available to provide meaningful, “value added” services not only to the project team but to all key stakeholders, in particular, those who are responsible to make decisions about the project.

To have any credibility, we not only should be making plans for others, but also making plans for ourselves, to ensure that we have sufficient numbers of the right resources available to support the portfolio of projects our organization has, whether we are working for an owner or contractor organization.

Explained another way, it is our responsibility as professional’s to “walk our talk” and “lead by example” showing that we not only are planning and tracking performance against the plan for others on the project team, but are planning, tracking and reporting on our own performance.

Going back to the Russian Nesting Dolls (Module 1-2 Developing The Project Controls Plan) which are designed to fit inside one another, executing the project controls plan is a scaled down version of the full project execution plan and uses exactly the same tools and techniques but only represents the application of those tools and techniques to those specific work packages, activities and other responsibilities of project controls to the project team and other key stakeholders.
