Importing Activity Data from xls

I am trying to import new activiies to an existing P5 programme, from an xls speadsheet.
Activity ID, Name & Primary constraint (Fin on or After) import ok. I cannot however get the activity type (Fin Milestone) or the date to carry over. I am exporting first to create a template, and retaining the formats etc. It is difficult to format the date, but even if I copy an exact date from the export, and re import, P5 does not seem to recognise it.
Any suggestions please?

Thanks, but I have followed your advice, and still no joy.
I have managed a workaround, by importing the xls to P3, then converting the P3 programme to P5.

Philip,
If you export the template it should be okay. Date format is in text but it also accept any date format in excel. If you are importing finish milestone activity you should input only the Early Finish date. If start milestone activity then only Early Start.
Import Structure:
Activity ID
Activity Status
WBS Code
These three fields is a must and should enter the data. If you are not familiar on these function, I suggest that before exporting your template, enter a sample data of each activity type that you want to import so you will have an idea of what kind of format when you enter the data into your template. If you include duration it overide your date and use the project calendar.
