Can anyone give me some examples of the benefits of Primavera over Safran? I am putting a list together for our corporate team as I’m trying to get Primavera to replace Safran and just want to make sure I haven’t missed anything.

Hi Steinar ,

did you study all scheduling softwares on the market?

Hi,

Just a comment to Mike Peyton's first comment about Longest Path in Safran Project:

The default calculation in Safran Project is "No Longest Path". This can be changed (individually for each project) to be "Longest Path". Do this under Setup>Networks>Analysis Options:

170

No other scheduling software on the market have a ritchness of Scheduling options that match Safran Project.

Rachel,

I work for a company that has one division that uses Safran and one that uses P6 v6.2. I don't use Safran but get to play with it when I need to convert Safran files to Primavera (for client purposes). A few things that I've heard/seen regarding the two:

1. Safran seems to have an inherent problem with Longest Path analysis (this comes from my counterparts using it). Additionally, P6 has the multiple float path analysis which is very useful, as well.

2. Safran has "more accurate" relationship lag determination (if you will) since it can determine lags based on individual activity calendar assignments (as opposed to requiring a general rule to be applied to all lags in a project).

3. Safran seems to do a good job (within the software) of being able to handle "shortened" time periods for histogram displays (I believe they are customizeable), where P6 uses a "linear" function.

4. Safran's "group and sort" functionality appears to be more robust than P6's; seems highly customizeable.

5. Safran's S-curves are more customizeable.

6. Safran doesn't appear to export to P6 very well (requires some massaging and "processing" to get it to work); so, if you are working with clients that require P6 native files you have to contend with this (but truth be told the processing doesn't take entirely too long once you get it figured out).

7. Safran doesn't export to Excel as "nicely" as P6 does; it likes to "combine" data in cells which makes it hard to deal with.

8. Safran does some "funky" things with zero duration "activities" with regard to Early dates; like to set ES after EF (which causes people to shy away from using zero duration activities).

That's all that I can think of, one way or the other, comparing the two based on my limited exposure to Safran. Hope some of it helps.

Mike

Hi Rachel

Safran is a scheduling software just like primavera ?
Why do you want to replace Safran by P6?
Do you need some functionality that is absent in Safran?
Usually people select the software basing on their own requirements. It does not make sense to compare what you do not need. So create a list of your own requirements and then look at the capabilities of competing packages.
