Hi All you P6 fanatics

I thought I would install my P6 software and I downloaded a trial version of SQL.

The SQL set up is asking for a user name and password but will not accept whatever I offer and will not suggest an alternative.

Any ideas please?

Best regards

Hi Mike,
You need to configure the database first. There are two ways to configure your database.
1) You can use Primavera-> Help & Utilities-> Database Configuration
Steps to configure database:
a) When Dialog Configuration Dialog box is up click Next
b) Tick Configure my database configuration then Click Next
c) Tick Project Management Database (PMDB)-> just accept the default PMDB and click Next
d) Select or create Alias (accept the default again & change the Driver type to "Microsoft SQL Server/SQL Service") then click Next
e) Enter the host name ([your computer name]\Primavera) and enter Database name (PMDB$Primavera) as default then click Next
f) Enter Public Login Information "pubuser" for both users name and password then click Next
g) Validate Database Connection - just click Next
h) You should have a message Connection Successful then click Finish
You can now open the Primavera

2) Another way is to Open Primavera and configure database
Step in configuring database using Primavera logon
a) On Login Pop-up click Database textbox [...]
b) Select PMDB and click configure
c) Follow step “c” to “h” on the 1st method steps above

Good Luck

Note: Primavera Login default is admin for both users name and password

Hi All

I am nearly there.

I have the SQL database and the P6 software installed and I am trying to make the 1st launch - and failing.

I am getting the following series of messages:

1st panel - Logon > Admin Password > (Blank) Database > PMDB

2nd Panel > Connecting to Database

3rd Panel > Unable to Connect to Database - would you like to connec now?

4th Panel Validating Datatabase

Username > Pubuser Password ******* (unknown) Public Group > 1

5th Panel > Connection Failed

When hitting the Help button it says that the 4th Panel info should be checked with the computer Admin and that is ME.

Can anybody help?

Best regards

Mike Testro.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the advice.

The SQL user name turned out to be "Mike" - daft really.

Anyway the SQL software failed to load at the last LOGON hurdle - I have no idea why.

I will try the P6 installation again before I give it up completely.

Best regards

Whenever I have installed P6 onto a fresh machine as standalone, SQL is installed from the installation file and all settings are in place for you. If you install the latest P6.7 as standalone you get Oracle instad of SQL.

I hope this helps

Arnold,

In addition to your post # 5, the Login name "sa" can also be used as Password "sa".

Again tried now and it works.

Hi Mike,

I’m confused why you need Microsoft SQL trial version where it should be included on the CD1. P6 used SQL Server and Database but it’s included in standalone installation. I suspect you downloaded a SQL Server and driver and not database because Primavera Database are not from Microsoft.

Note: P6.1 database is not the same as P6 .2 v7 database.
P6 default usersname = sa for admin with password Prima123Vera on version P6.1 and not sure on P6.2 v7 if still the same but you can use privuser (usersname and password) or pubuser (usersname and password) all of them are acceptable in P6.

Hi Mike,

If you open the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 --> SQL Management Studio Express, it will prompt you the "Connect to Server" Box.

Server Type: Database Engine
Server name: Computer Name\PRIMAVERA
Authentication: SQL Server Authentication
Login: sa
Password: Prima123Vera

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for. But you can try it.

Regards,

Arnold

Hi Mike,

I vaquely remember something about "sa" (system/server administrator) being either the username or the password on first time installation.

Try google "password sql-server sa" or similar.

There is also something with "admin" (but that is probably for P6). Maybe try combinations of "sa" and "admin", such as "sa"-"sa", or "sa"-"admin", "admin"-"admin", etc.

Best regards,

Bo

Hi Rodel

P6 seems to need an SQL database and server.

I downloaded the Microsoft evaluation software.

I am using a standalone version of P6 on XP software.

Best regards

Hi Mike,

What SQL you are trying to install? Is it database or server? Where did you get the SQL, Microsoft, Sybase or anything else?
