Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi all
Wish you a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year.
I have some steps defined for each activity in my schedule. Now the client wants to have a detailed schedule.
The best thing i can do is includ the steps as activites and activites as wbs or activity codes, but can this be done and if yes how.
Cheers
Sachin

Dear sachin,

When submitting a program of works, you need to submit the soft and hard copies. Both are necessary for review.

With best regards,

Dear sachin,

The definition of steps is the same as the definition of an activity per PMBOK (a component of work performed during the course of the project.)

The client wants a more detailed activity list, you can provide him with that. I would suggest that you meet with the construction crews and understand exactly what they intend to do.

What you have described is fine, but it can be better. For a structure like a building; you have a substructure (below ground) and a super structure (above ground).

i have defined the steps like Excavation, compaction, laying of Rebar, form Work, Anchor bolt fixing & concreting

I would recommend that you divide your site into areas or zones, and give each a number. Then you can have a more detailed activity list like the following:

1. Site Survey
2. Prepare Topography shop drawings and submit to Engineer.
3. Topography shop drawing approval.
. Mechanical excavation up to design level
. Manual Excavation to Bottom of Foundation
. Geotechnical Engineer inspection
. Engineer approval of Geotechnical report
. Prepare Topography of excavated area
. Installation of Vapor barrier if any
. Submit shop drawings for blinding
. Approval of Shop drawings for blinding
. Formwork for Blinding
. Casting of Building
. Insulation below Foundations
. Protection of insulation below Foundations
. Foundation Formworks
. Reinforcement of Foundations
. Installation of Anchor Bolts if any
. E/M works if any
. Handing over of Works to Engineer
. Casting of Foundations
. Removal of Formwork
. Curing of Foundations
. Insulation of Foundation
. Insulation protection of foundation
. Fill in layers
. Inspection of compacted soil
. Handing over of compacted soil below tie beams
. Installation of Vapor barrier if any
. Formwork for Blinding of Tie beams
. Casting of Blinding for Tie Beams
. Removal of Formwork
. Curing of Tie Beams
. Insulation of Tie beams
. Insulation protection of Tie beams
. Compaction of Soil up to Bottom of Blinding for Slab on Grade
. Inspection of compacted soil Each layer
. E/M works below Slab on Grade if any
. Excavation for Trenches and Pits if any
. Installation of Vapor barrier for Slab on grade
. Fromwork for blinding
. Casting of Blinding
. Curing of Blinding
. Removal of Formwork for blinding
. Insulation below slab on grade
. instulation protection below slab on grade
. Formwork for Slab on grade
. Reinforcement for Slab on grade
. 1st fix E/M Work if any
. Casting of Slab on Grade
. Removal of formwork for Slab on grade
. Curing of Slab on grade
. Cutting of slab on grade against thermal cracking.

You can repeat the above for each zone. This is considered more detailed than what you have described.

With kind regards,

Samer

The project execution team is referring to the PMS which is pretty detailed out. That’s not a problem.
The project is modification of existing system, where we have foundation to be built and demolished, piping works, instrumentation & electrical works.
For each activity i have already defined the steps.
Say for example Civil Foundation for Plate Heat exchangers
i have defined the steps like Excavation, compaction, laying of Rebar, form Work, Anchor bolt fixing & concreting.
Now My client is insisting on a micro level schedule to monitor the project. He wants me to show all these steps a activities when i give him the update on paper. If i give him the update in soft copy he can see it in primavera but his bosses need to see the same on paper...
So what i was thinking was if i could only change the steps to activities that would be great, but can this be done.
I hope u are clear about my requirement..

Dear sachin,

What kind of project are you working on? We might be able to assist you in giving you more details.

Usually, you need to discuss the project with the team members and show all the work that is going to be executed by them.

With kind regards,

Samer
