Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we deliver the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

We have a number of projects which are update once a week re scheduled and levelled and for months applied Constraint dates have been honored but in the last few weeks these constriants are not working unless they are Mandatory Constraints.  I suspect someone has updated a global setting but cannot find find it.  Can anyone advise

Regards John.

Hi John,

What type of constraints are you using? Only mandatory constraint fixes the date of the activity and other constraints affect the float of the activity. Please read the following posts on constraints for a better clarity on how constraints behave http://www.primaverablog.in/category/important-topics/constraints/ .

If you can give me more details about the type of constraint, Start, Finish dates etc. then we can discuss further.

Thanks & Regards

Amit

Keep constraints to a minimum.  Use them only for contractual required dates when there would be a penalty for not hitting the date.  Have you tried Longest Path Approximator?  http://scheduling.spacetechnology.net  It is capable of moving the data date back to the beginning of the month, and then you can see the critical path.  Hint:  Ask for  a free sample!

John

If you use constraints there can be a conflict between relationships and constraints, e.g. an activity is delayed, and due to sequences and durations other activities' constraints can't be fulfilled. Mandatory constraints win, the others loose against the relationships and the activities will be delayed.

Check the log file of scheduling (F9). At the bottom you can find those conflicts.

Do you really need those constraints?

Hope this helps
