Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Good Morning Planners,

as I understand, if there is an activity in main project has no corresponding activity in baseline project then that activity would not have any baseline dates. Please let me know I am wrong.

The question is if the situation is vice versa, i.e. baseline project holds an activity which is not present in main project then what happens? Also, does that makes any harm during future updatation of project like, add/delete activities and then update them in baseline project, duplication of activity id or any that sorts of trouble.

Another question is, if i delete an activity from main project, does it gets deleted from baseline project or not?

Many Thanks,

Kandarp

Mr Rodel,

Thanks for the detailed explaination. Now it became more clear how activity Id works.

Karndarp,
Activity ID is the unique identifier used for baseline in P6. If you deleted activity id and in the future decided to enter it back with different name it will still show baseline using existing Activity ID, Date, duration and other old data. If you restore the baseline it will carry the old Activity Name and not the new Activity Name and if decided to add new activity name without overwriting the old activity name it will create a new activity id and it will not show as baseline to current project if not having the same activity id. You cannot show BL Activity Name when it attached to current project.

Thanks Rodel for your reply.

I think I could not explain the second question correctly before so trying again.

Say I have added an activity (’Remove Bridge’) which has got ID as A2040. I have baselined it and after couple of weeks I found it is not required any more. So I delete it from main project. But the baseline still contains the activity A2040.

Now, after sometime I have added another activity (’Construct Abutment’) which has again got the ID as A2040.

Now, the question is:
What if I do not copy the ’ Construct Abutment’ in baseline project? Will it get baseline dates as ’Remove Bridge’? Or it won’t have any baseline date?

Also, what happens if I do copy ’Construct Abutment’ in the baseline project coz baseline already as an activity with the same id?

Kandarp,
If no activity baseline equivalent then no baseline will be shown.

If baseline is exist and no equivalent on current program it will be ignore and show only equivalent activity to current program. There is no harm during future update of project because it will create a unique id for new activities. It will not accept duplicate activity id.
It is called one to one relationship.

If an activity on current project is deleted it will no effect on the baseline and baseline equivalent will not be deleted but it will be ignore and will not show.
