I don’t know if this is a coincidence or just a luck , I was struggling to sort this out and how a person who have a good knowledge of how to install any programme in Vista windows, but alike P6.2 with Vista made me lost my mind as I have tired a lot, but with no success and unfortunately no one gives you that the right answer simply because you need to visit those so called experts to sort this out for you for some pennies , when I heard about the P6. 7 version new release, I wondered that Primavera guys are considering such case and can sort out and put ends to my suffer, and Here you go ….they have done that and all I have to do is to uninstall the P6.2 and the SQL thing! and had this animal working perfectly… cheers Primavera ppl

Hi Ronnel,

I have encountered a lot of errors in Primavera during installation but fortunately I can managed and tried to fix by using the same procedure.

The problem with the installation is the database and if you had already installed Primavera at first but it failed then this is a difficult problem you have to face.

Try to copy the link below and paste it in the web address:

This is a Solution ID: prim78315 (SQL will not install: ERROR: SQL setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration)

Hi Arnold;

We tried installing again P6 and as usual there was an error generated.

SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Encryption not supported on the client. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.

Maybe you have encountered this error & found some solutions. Thanks.

Hi Ronnel,

The caused of this is because the P6 installer is finding a registry key from a previous Microsoft MSDE database that was installed as part of a Primavera 6x standalone installation. If this key is detected during the P6 installation then the P6 installer attempts to upgrade the old Primavera 6x database referenced by the key.

This error message is generated because the database is not available - usually because it has been at least partially uninstalled or is not functioning for some other reason.

Now, in order to get the P6 installation to complete it is only necessary to delete the registry keys that point to the old MSDE install. This solution is quick and simple but may leave some old MSDE registry keys and files on the computer.

The keys to delete are:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Primavera

Once these keys are deleted the P6 standalone can be installed. Otherwise, full manual uninstall of MSDE to be performed.

Regards,

Arnold
