Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Force to show critical task

Hi,
I’m using P6.2, I have a task named "INSTALL SCAFFOLDS" having a FREE FLOAT of 0 day and a TOTAL FLOAT of 30 days. It is not being shown as critical but I want to show it as as a critical task, how to force it to show as a critical task? I have other tasks having a FREE FLOAT of more than 0 days and a TOTAL FLOAT of 20 days but I don’t want them to show a critical, only the task named "INSTALL SCAFFOLDS".

Yusuke,

F9, Options.....

Make sure that under the ’Define Critical Activities’ it is set to 0 days, and not a negative figure, as this will eliminate Activities with 0 days Total Float from the Critical Path.

To make an activity critical either you need to play with the relationaships or apply contraints(not a right way of making a activity critical)...

Yusuke,

Though your schedule might not show it as critical, the activity ("install scaffold") is really necessary and practically critical (or is it not?).

There are several ways to do it, but I supposed if you had arranged or organized your activities practically, for sure it will show as critical, please check the logic links.

why would you want to show it as critical when it isn’t?

Free Float has nothing to do with criticality -it is only Total Float that defines the critical path.
