Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

One critical path

Our project involves the completion of the remaining concreting works for 3 towers This project was suspended before and our company will be the one to continue it. These 3 towers are partially complete so we will just complete those not yet done. The duration is 160 days.. The client said there should only be one critical path since the duration is for all towers. But since we can work on three towers at the same time and independently, is it possible to have only one critical path?

Hi Ronn

Since you are taking over a part completed project be aware that you are going come up against some (maybe a lot of) unexpected problems - it is inevitable.

Therefore include sufficient contingency time buffers in your programme for each of the sections - these can be manipulated so that there is one critical path following a number of chaneels from start to finish.

In Powerproject a buffer task automatically turns critical.

Dear Ronn,

Just a small comment about the title of the Thread, i am not sure how you can control that.

It seems that what you are talking about is one Program of Works for the complete project. The critical path depends on the calculations made by the software, and it changes with each update.

You can have more than one critical path on the project. And I think that you will get multiple critical paths on this project as well. Since you have small duration and a lot of work, so most of the activities are critical.

With kind regards,

Samer

List the scope of works, assign the duration & linl all the activities. repeat the process for 03 towers.
If there is any relationship between the towers assign.
If there any constraint assign....

If 03 towers are independent of each other then the longest path is the critical path

Dear Roon:

Yes , it is most possible and u can find hereinafter my advice .

My advice is to follow the subsequent steps:

1. Study the BOQ and the quantum of drawings very well.
2. Specified and classified your scope of work .
3. Fix resources table to carry out the works.
4. Now when u will step in the scheduling term , u have to but all the activities in on program, organized within 3 section , each section present one tower.
5. Link the activities together , and load resources.
6. Put start mile stone and finish mile stone one for the three section .
7. Now the section will verify the critical path , which needs more duration and more resources.

Regards.

Ronn,

IMO, you can create a single CP in all of those three structures. If it is really ur intention to start all structures simoultaneously and assumming that the remaining works for all of it are almost of the same magnitude, then submit one programme similar for all of three. That I believed is what the client wants. Give it to them. This programme will be on ur favor, because any event that delay not within the control of the contractor in any one structure will delay the other two.

Cheers,

Billy

Yes, of course.
If one of the towers will be finished later that others (more time necessary for its construction) the critical path is there. Other towers have some time reserve - if they will be finished earlier the project will not be finished earlier.

... and also the podium is included in the contract. Same as the 3 towers, just do the remaining concreting works and can be done at the same time with the towers. So to sum it up, we have podium and 3 towers which can start and do the works at the same time. Is it possible to have only one critical path?
