Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Ran a report to an excel file and ended up with really erroneous float on some activities.  for example, one activity indicates total float of 331d when the true total float in only 111d Start (August 17, 2017) late start (December 6, 2017) and Finish (September 16, 2017) and Late finish (December 18, 2017).

The erroneous float appears to be assinged to all activities on a (7) day clendars and just on the report as the correct float is indicated on the barchart view on the screen.

any suggestions would helpful

Dan

Again the float errors are only for the Actvities assigned to a 7 day calendar .........while the correct float is indicated on screen but i get a different float when i run a report

Basic_Float_Calculations

  • Start Float cannot be greater than 111 days.
  • Finish Float cannot be greater than 93 days.

Why 331d is still a mystery. It is a 3 to 1 ratio depending on time of day for start and finish dates. It might be the issue is within work patterns, perhaps an 8 h/d work pattern assigned to a 24 h/d calendar (?).  I do not use Asta PP but look for knowledge everywhere.  Work patterns is an interesting concept.

Working with Asta PP Work Patterns

Work patterns on the same calendar are perhaps unique to Asta Power Project.  Work patterns look like applying multiple work weeks to different periods on same calendar, a special kind of calendar exception. This can be a common situation in some industries like Hospitals and Airlines.

Its use can be transparent if when displaying calendar on calendar column you can also display work patterns: Calendar1(WP1,WP2,…).

Two thumbs up to Asta Power Project.

Availability of resources is not only defined by work hours but might also be by geographical location. I wonder how location patterns could be better implemented.

Emad

This is an Asta forum not P6.

Daniel

Float is always displayed in working days.

You may be comparing the result with calendar (ed) days.

Best regards
