Project Manager / Engineer

Employed initially as a Project Engineer, seconded to various client’s sites since April 01:-

Contracts Manager

Mar 05 – Oct 06

The main objective of this role was to ensure that a large number of BNFL projects spanning fiscal years were financially compliant. Main responsibilities included: -

  • Respond to the client’s Request for Quotation (RFQ) in a timely manner.
  • Monitor all projects under remit (about 30) to ensure funding continuity.
  • Chase clients to ensure expedient payment of invoice.
  • Validate orders against RFQ & compile a Project plan under which work is undertaken.
  • Raise Purchase requisitions & orders on Alliance partners & specialist sub-contractors.
  • Monitor spends against order value by project, approving invoices & time-sheets.
  • Ensure admin hours are charged to the client to minimise company overheads.

Project Manager – B368/B399 COSR Mechanical Handling DARs

Management of a team of 8 people producing Mechanical Design Assessment Reports (DARs) for Safety Reports (COSRs) for BNFL (Sellafield). Main responsibilities included:-

  • Production of a tender estimate & plan & development into a fully costed plan.
  • Progress reports, including EV figures, updating plan progress, outstanding actions.
  • Change control, management of sub-contracted staff, invoices & upward project reporting.
  • Chairing kick off, progress & technical meetings with the client (BNFL).

Project Engineer – Early Retrievals Project (ERP - Sellafield)

Reporting to the BNFL PM, Leading a small team to introduce procedures & systems to aid the project to smoothly administer a large resource ramp up within the first 6 months: -

  • Developed a (Suitably Qualified & Experienced Person) ‘SQEPping’ system to ensure all personnel were SQEP & manage its introduction. Successfully led the project through an audit.
  • Investigated security arrangements & implemented a project specific procedure to resolve short-falls.
  • Developed induction packs for the project including delivering a presentation to all new starters.
  • Produce RFQs for submission to sub-contractors. Responsibility to ensure that the RFQ incorporated pertinent contractual clauses & lined up with BNFL’s Near Term Work Plan (NTWP).
  • Appointed as the ‘Interim Resource Manager’ between AMEC & BNFL.

Assistant PM (Radwaste & Decommissioning Project)

The project’s aim was to develop fully costed plans to fully decommission each of British Energy’s nuclear power stations. Remit included: -

  • Monitoring spends against & updating the plan, compiling monthly progress reports.
  • Managing & reporting against 3 external contracts (total value about £400K).
  • Ensuring milestones were clearly defined & monitoring progress to ensure delivery.

Project Manager / Engineer (B38 Technical & Development Project)

Project Manager / Engineer on the B38 (Sellafield) (T&D) Project. Within FY 02/03, the T&D work-stream comprised around 40-50 work packages, total value £4.3M, responsibilities included: -

  • Writing the scope document, complete with fully costed plans for the next financial year. Inputs into the Expenditure proposal document.
  • Monitoring budget & ensuring there was an auditable trial, through to the current estimate.
  • Writing quality plans & project specific procedures (& ensuring they were followed).
  • Earned value analysis including resource smoothing, cost & change control & EAC.
  • Monthly project progress reporting.
  • Writing project close out reports including lessons learnt, project implementation plans & strategy documents.
  • In the absence of the Project Manager, successfully led the ADAS sub-project through a FEL3 Gate.
