Hello Friends,

I am facing a problem while assigning a baseline.

I have a updated project schedule( in P6V7). Certain activities are completed, cetain in progress and others not started. Now I want to assign my current project as the baseline so that my baseline start and finish dates match my start and finish dates. But while going my the normal process of maintaining and assigning a baseline, The dates are not matching.

Please someone help me solve the issue.

Hi Sheju,

First of all, you need permission or approval from the Client or the PM before you can change your approved baseline.

Second, there has to be a strategic plan on how you can best recover and there has to be a study. I think that is what you are doing now. In order to recover, you need to increase your production rates or work extended time or work additional shifts. Study the Critical Path and how you can best achieved this.  The recovery should have a start and a forecast finish date, the date when you are supposed to be back on track and should be backed up by calculations, additional resources, production rates and this can be best demonstrated using graphs, like progress curves.

Best regards,

Daniel

Thanks Irfan for the response

The purpose of the exercise is to make a recovery plan. Now my project started in March 2010 and as per plan was to finish in June 2011. But as on End Dec 2010, after updating the progress and running the schedule the end date goes to Aug 2010. Now the client wants to prepare a revised plan so as to complete the project in June 2011 itself. I thought of reworking the duration of activities and the relationship and I have brought the project end date back to June 2011. Now I want these revised dates to be reflected in the baseline. Can I do that? If not how to make a recovery plan.
