Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi Everyone,

I just Started Using PM6 just a few months ago and i really admit i am having a hard time figuring things out, well here is my question i have already set up my activity codes in the database (globally)but i wanted to assign resources in every activity code. to elaborate more further here is my example:

032001 my activity code, i want to assign resources such as Foreman, Steelman and a helper, in that act code meaning every time i assign that activity code in a certain activity the foreman steelman and the helper is simultaneously assigned to that certain activity where i assigned the 032001 activity code?where can i set that up in P6 or where should i start?

best regards, and thank you in advance guys,

Pat

Hi Pat,

Just like what I’ve said activity codes in Primavera are used for activity grouping flexibility. Let’s say your default activity grouping is by WBS, and your boss want’s an activity layout grouped by sub contractor; that is the time we can use activity codes. Just add an activity codes CONTRACTOR and define values for contractor. In that way your grouping will be changed from WBS to By Contractors.

I think what you really want to do is assign resources to activities where your activity codes were assigned.

Let’s say an activity(concrete pouring), you have assigned an activity code. I think we can make a workaround by using the global change. A global change that will assign specific resources to activities with the assigned activity code.

First you need to create your Resource Code (not Activity Code).

Go to: Enterprise: Scroll down to Resource n Add your codes

Next Go to >>>>The Resources Button (find your foreman, or whoever you are going to assign the codes you created)

Find the TAB (CODES) N Click on It
Next HIT Assign (find the codes you created n assign to the appropriate resource)

you should also add the column for the resource so you can see who is getting assigned

I think this is what you wanted to do?

i dunno

but also you can create an activity code called (responsibility)

Go To Enterprise

>Activity Code
>Hit Modify
>HIT ADD
>N TYPE Responsibility (Now You Got your Grouping Band)(close that window)

Go To > Activity Code (click on the down arrow that has all the activity codes and select (responsibility)

Now Add New Responsibility Code Values N Description

So you have now added all your code values n description

Now go to the Activities Layout>>>

Find An Activity: Right Click on your mouse N assign (Activity Code)(Make Use all DISPLAY VALUE ARE SHOW (IF NOT CLICK ON IT N SELECT ALL VALUES)

The Easiest Way to find it again is to just Click on an Activity Code do a CTRL + F (and type the code you want to assign) that will find it. N now just double click on it..YOur done now

Hi Pat,

If I understood you question correctly, Activity Code cannot be assigned to Resources. You can only assign Resource Code to Resources but not Activity Code. Correct me if I am wrong.
