Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

I was told that for activites, or a group that are linked, can be saved into P6, then dumped in by pressing add. Ie if I am working on a new programme and I need to insert all the activities involved in the fitout of a toilet block, I go to an area where I have stored the activities, then paste it into my new programme - anyone know how I do this?

Arnold - where is Methodology Management? I have exported the file of the activities I need but am not sure how to import it in?

I looked at the plug in / select base and have understood how to ’add’ saved activity groups - just not sure where Methodology Management is?

Christopher

To copy activities I use a different technique.
1. Creat a WBS-node "To_Copy"
2. Copy the required activities into "To_Copy"
3. Goto view "WBS"
4. Copy or move "To_Copy" into the new project
5. Arrange the activities within the new project.

That’s all.

Regards and good luck!

HELLO-MR.PUY

Prob. related to P6

Please advise me as below.

I have made schd. there is % complte type is "Duration" for all activity.

The Schd.i want to update manually with physical % complete.

1. I have to chnage all activity (% complete type) before start updating or one by one i means while updating activity ,then i will change % complete type "duration " in to "physical" then put actual start, % and remaining duration.

in that case updated activity completed/under progress will be
(%Physical) and unupdate activity will be
( % Duration TYpe)

in the P6 manual says have to set at intial stage, means default ..% complete type.

(if i will change % complte type then it has to be same in Baseline & Current Project m I right)

Thanks
Shahzad

Hi Christopher,

You need to create a new project in Methodology Management or you can import the project you needed to restore and use it in the future.

Try the following steps:

1. If you have already existing activities or group of activities to be used for future reference, select all the group of activities and save it. delete all the others which is not part of that group. Or you can save everything without deleting the others.
2. After complying the #1, Go to File Menu --> Export.
3. Open the Methodology Management.
4. In the File Menu --> Import the project you exported from Project Management.
5. Then follow the window wizard.

Now you have already finished storing those activities.

Here are the steps on how to re-use or retrieve the group of activites.

1. Go to File Menu --> Project Architect and follow the window wizard.
2. In "Select Base or Plug-in" tick the "Base Methodology" then Next.
3. In Select Base Methodology, select "Select Base"
4. Mark the checkbox next to the "Methodology Name" then close.
5. In "Tailor WBS" select ’Tailor’ you can select the WBS Code you wanted to copy or select the "Activities" to be included by "ticking & unticking" the checkbox.
6. In ’Save Location" select the WBS Element radio button and select or locate the newly added WBS or Activities to your current project.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Arnold
