Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi Raviraj,

You can also use Copy Ctrl-C then Paste Ctrl-V then using auto increment change the values of your id’s. If the scope of work is repetitive, you can link and load them with resources before copying. That way, when you begin pasting those activities you only need to link the floors. That will also depends on your programmed work cycles.

There’s one more easy way to do this.

1. Create a typical cycle for each floor, if u r doing building project, or may be for one particular section, if u doing road / pipeline project. Use only 7 digits for ACTIVITY ID.

2. Link all these activities using appropriate lags with levels assigned to it.

Once this typical cycle is over, then filter NO ACTIVITIES, paste this typcial cycle, and then change the prefix for each floor.

EXAMPLE: (For the project, i m working into)

THERE CAN BE ONLY 10 DIGIT ACTIVITY ID

Lets split that into following for say Building project:

- First 3 digit for each floor. Create Code list for same.
- 1 digit for space, say tower, podium, pool, annex etc.
- 2 digits for specification - type of work involved like concrete, masonary, wood, metal, pre-construction etc.
- 3 digit for the particular activity
- 1 digit for revision

Now create a typical cycle for say structural works and interior fit-out works. Assign them only last seven digits and then paste this cycle every time with required prefix of floor. THIS IS WHAT YOU ASKED, RIGHT?

And the only work now balance is linking floor to floor activities.

THE END :-)

Cheers,

Raviraj

- First create a new Activity Code (NewID) = 10 Char
- Export ID, Name and NewId
- Create a new ID in NewID (in Excel)
- Import
- use Global Change to replace ID with NewID

hi
Ashkan
what Paul has said in first is a very nice option.
i always prefer that.
i would like to share something which i have learned.
that in p3 we have activity id limitations upto 10 characters. so even if we activity id of only one character, p3 saves the activity id as 9 blanks and 1 character, so if you want to amend that activity and add somthing into the prefix or suffix, first u will have to remove those blanks and then give the numbering u want.

now this is my assumption.
I would be grateful if our senior planners could just guide me on this, whether i am right or wrong.

cheers

After backing up your project, your can either:

1. Copy all the activities and then paste them selecting an appropriate renumbering method, then delete the original activities.
2. Use a Global Change.
