I am new in Primavera P6. I built a schedule in Primavera, with activities from 18-Sep-2012 to 02-July-2014. I have its data date of 18-Sep-2012. But this schedule doesn't show critical activities as it should. It have large number of total floats, whereas those floats should be zero. Would somebody please help me to solve this problem.

if you remove the Project Must finish by date you will NEVER see any negative float if the project falls behind schedule.

make sure each activity has a predecessor and each activity has a successor the float is what it is.

Just remove the "Must Finish Date", and then schedule your plan, there must be some critical activities showing.

I think you should first know the detail definition of Total Float, TF=LF-EF, in other words, TF is the most buffer duration that a activity can float from early start of finish date to late start or finish date, but not affecting the delivery date. So if a acitivity has a huge TF, you should first consider that if it has a successor activity.

1. go to the Projects directory check the project must finish by date make sure that the DATE is correct

2. make sure that every activity has a predecessor except the first activity.

3. Make sure that every activity has a successor expect the last activity in the schedule.

Hi Binita,

At project level (Date Tab), have you applied any must finish date gerater than 02-July-2014? If yes, remove it

Binita,

Check to make sure you don't have dangling activities (SS relationships).

You need proper logic (mainly FS relationships) for you to have meaningful Total Float.

Thank-you for your time Jerome.

I defined relationship, but still it shows huge total float in all the activities.

Binita,

Assign relationships to activities, i.e. predecessors and successors. Total Float is driven by schedule logic.
