Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi,

Does anyone know how to assign a resource for a period in the middle of a task?

I have a number of tasks that are say 10 weeks long, however I would like to assign different resources to the first 4 weeks the middle 2 weeks and the last 6 weeks but cant work out how this can be achieved. I assign the resources as non modelled as I do not want them effecting the duration of the task.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

Mike and Paul give good advice on why not to do this, and on other ways of acheiving the same.  But for reference, you can have a resource allocation in Powerproject of a different duration to the task.  It can be as simple as modifying the length of the resource allocation bar as if it was a task (click on the end of the bar and drag left or right).

Powerproject does however also have a full non-linear resource allocation feature, which is the last tab of information on the resource allocation properties menu (right-click on the resource allocation bar).  See the help file for more details.

Oh - and check out the resource usage view, for an editable grid-like window under the bar chart showing where resources are working!

Multiple Tasks on one line will do this.

Hi Chris

You can split the tasks into sections using the Split Task option.

Then you can add resources to each section

Make sure that they are logic linked.

Better stiil set up different tasks for each section - 10 weeks is too long - 10 days is more realistic.

Best regards
