Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Folks

I am currently in the throws of starting a Thesis for my Masters Project Management.

I am doing it on Programme (Multi project) risk management within the oil and gas services industry.

I was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge of this, specifically I am looking for some information on the following

1. What are the barriers towards implementing this approach if this is not already in place ?
2. Does your company do it ?
3. Is it successful ?
4. Anyone know of any good research thats been done into this ?

I am sure I will think of more questions after my lunch

Your thoughts as always are appreciated !!!!!

Neil

Hi Neil

You want to know about this topic for your thesis.

"I am doing it on Programme (Multi project) risk management within the oil and gas services industry."

I have a feeling that you will be researching an as yet unexplored field of expertise - but that is what a true thesis should be.

If anybody in the target industry knows anything about the subject they will certainly keep it to themselves.

If it is not to late I advise chosing a simpler topic - such as "Who Owns the Float in a Delay Situation."

That has kept PP occupied for years.

Best regards

Mike Testro

Many thanks for the reply !

I do intend to do interviews at Management level within my company, but was interested in the views of the community as a whole so I can get a general feel for it cross industry.

Many thanks on the reference, I have put feelers out to see if anyone has a copy of it (I am Scottish ... If I can avoid the 15 quid charge then I will ! means more beer for me)

So I would be very interested in any response to the questions, although if people have to pick one to answer then my preference would be

"What are the barriers towards implementing programme risk management"

Many thanks !

Neil,

If you want real-life examples you need to contact companies directly to interview managers within the company (qualitative), or you could create a questionnaire as a method of obtaining detailed ’quantitive’ data.

Also, the following paper would be worth looking at.

Title: Risk management in a multi-project environment: An approach to manage portfolio risks

Author(s): Rolf Olsson

Journal: International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management

Volume: 25
Issue: 1
Page: 60 - 71

Thanks for your reply, however rather than book work, I am looking for Real Life examples of some of the issues faced.

Anyone able to help ?
