Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi Folks

Needing a bit of advice on P6 Earned Value calculations.  Currently I have my schedule and I note that after updating progress   the "earned value"  is not calculated for activities that have been added after i set my baseline ( ie. activities where there is no corresponding activity in the baseline).  On reading other forums and google it seems that the earned value is calculated using the baseline values and therefore the earned value does not get calculated for my activities that I added later.  Can anyone confirm if this is the case or not.

Also I need advice on how to calculate the earned value for these activities that are not in the baseline. Currently I am using user defined fields and doing the calculations myself, using global changes,  but surely there must be a way of getting P6 to calculate these earned values accurately.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

George

Hi George

Easy to solve, no need to calculate by hand or global change. A baseline is not static but a tool to compare to different schedules. I teach my pupils to create a new baseline when an schedule is not anymore representative for the present status of the project. In you case you have added activities to the schedule and therefore the schedule as baselined is not anymore representative and therefore i suggest to create an new baseline and then the earned value calculations can be done as planned.

You must not forget that , after a new baseline has been created, you have the opportunity to assign the baseline you desire. In you case you can assign the old" or the "new" baseline. So you can calculate earned value on the new and old baseline.

Trust this helps
