Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Does anyone have any experience with the Risks feature of P6 (P6.2)?

It may be a useful ’what-if’ tool, if I understood it.

Any constructive thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

I think that the risks, issues, thresholds and WPs/Docs functions are all marketing tools.
The idea of having one programme for all project related activity is good, but the functionality of Primavera software is clumsy and too expensive to use for doc control etc.

If you send me your email address i can send you an example PMO risk repor, but i don’t have an excel risk register cos i dont currently use one!

Oliver;

Thanks for the response - the silence is deafening.

This pretty well confirms my opinion that the "Risks" feature is more for marketing than for use. I put in a couple enhancement requests to make it more date sensitive and hence more useful for ’what-ifs’.

Curious as to how you use it to collate risks. I seldom work at the PMO level, so maybe it is obvious when handling several projects. Any insight appreciated.

Also, if not too great a bother and not violating any ownership issues, any Excel risk register templates that you can share would likewise be appreciated.

Again, thanks.

Dennis,

I use P5 to collate all risks and issues at PMO level and create high-level reports across divisions as a opposed to just for each project.

There is also a basic impact calculator that will show possible delays or cost overuns that you may be exposed to.

I would say however that the poor response to your thread shows that most people dont use the risk option in Primavera.

If the risk register is in excel then you dont need to P5/6 license to access it it tends to stay more up-to-date!
