Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Can anyone advise weather it is possible to level activities in P5, based on Role assignments.

ie Roles have been applied to the activities, but not specific resources. Resource (Role) profile shows an overload situation, and there is float in the activities.

Hello to you all,
I am currently trying to do the same thing with my projects.

I am developing a document at the current time which will set out some basic principles for the use of P5 and the levelling of generic resources (skill pools).

If some of you would like to have a read of the document and pass comment once I’m finished it (sometime in the next 2 weeks), send me a private message with your contact details.

I’d be very pleased to let you have a review of the document as I’ve thus far found the resource leveller in P5 something that needs to be tamed to say the least.

Andy
Hi Phil,
thank you for the explanation.
Yes, skill scheduling is very useful for design project portfolio management. Actually it is necessary if you plan resource usage on the "personal" level (who will do what).

Vladimir

Hi Vladimir

I am at the very early stages of a Design Engineering project. I have added Roles to all the design activities, but as yet, not specific resources. I need to level the activities, to determine how many Design Engineers will be required on the project.

Best regards
Phil
Hi Phil,
few planners require skill scheduling. I did not meet these requirements at Planningplanet before. It is interesting in what kind of projects and how do you plan to use it?
Best Regards,
Vladimir

Thanks Paul

Maybe I should log a request with Primavera, and see if we can get this facility included in the next version.

Levelling only works on Resources and not with Roles.
