Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Suretrak 3.0c automatically reorganizes activities on startup?

Hello,

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this post. I'm having a problem I hope someone can help with. I'm using Suretrak 3.0c. When I go to Format>Organize and uncheck the Reorganize Automatically box I'm able to insert new activities and move them where I want them just fine. The problem is when I close the file and then open it back up Suretrak reorganizes all of the activities even though the box is still unchecked. Is there a way to prevent this behavior and have Suretrak not reorganize all of the acitvities when opening a file? It's very frustrating to move a bunch of activities where you want them only to have Suretrak negate all of your efforts. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me with this.

1.  Thank you for your offer.  I've sent it to a friend of mine who discovered that somehow or another I'd made the resources as driving.  Once we changed the resource from driving to non-driving, that took care of the problem.  Thank you again for your offer to help.

Regards.

Charlie,

I have not used Suretrak for years but suggest unlink % complete and remaining duration and also consider changing % complete to 0 though not sure.

Good luck.

1.  Would any of you Privavera Suretrak users have an idea what might be causing an inability to add durations to existing activities in a Suretrak schedule?  I've taken an exisiting scheudle from the first phase of a project and am re-using it for the second phase.  I've stripped out all of the actual dates so that everything is back to early starts and early finish dates.

2.  With the acitivities which have at least 1 day of existing duration, I'm able to add duration to them, however with those activities with zero days of original duration (I'm not sure why they have zero days of original duration), I'm unable to add duration.  It accepts it for an instant and copies the value into the remaining duration cell, and then in another instant, goes back to zero.  I've changed the activitiy type and it doesn't seem to matter if it's independent or task, or anything else.

3.  Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be, and, more to the point, what the fix might be?  I really don't want to have to re-build this schedule!

4.  Thanks ahead of time!

Regards,

Charlie Menghetti

Try going to Organize and look for any sorting selection, if there are sorting order specified un-clik/delete them and see what happens after you have manually changed activity sorting.

It might be just the opposite that when you do not have a sorting criteria then Suretrak will use activity ID. Therefore I would try selecting any sort criteria but with Reorganize automatically un-clicked as to prevent default sorting from happening.

  • If you do not specify sorting criteria, or if all other sorting criteria are the same for two or more activities, SureTrak sorts by Activity ID

The last option that occurs to me is using a comment field or user defined field to create sort order numbers and place sequentially the values. This have the advantage of when changing/resorting layouts you can recover the sorting.

  • If you define a custom sorting field for each layout then you can define sor order numbers by individual groups without need to change all fields.

Good luck, this is as far as I can go without the software.

Best Regards,

Rafael

Rafael,

Thanks for replying. I tried exactly what you suggested and to no avail. After moving an acivity I saved the project and exited. When I re-opened the project the  activities reorganized themselves numerically even though the box is unchecked under Format>Oraganize to "Organize Automatically". Any other suggestions?

Suggest making a simple activity order change, then perform a save just before closing, it might be changes in activity ordering are not interpreted as a file change unless you specifically state it by executing a save action.
