Longest Path, literally means the same as it describes - the longest path from the Start of the Project to Finish of the Project. It DOES include completed activities.

Critical activities can be defined the way you want - it can be activities with less than certain amount of Total Float or it can be the longest path.

Which activities appear in critical path depends on how you set up your critical path filter. Again the filter can be either to select the activities in the longest path or to select activities with TF less than certain amount. If you select Longest path, then your filter will show the LONGEST PATH including completed activities.

to Raviraj Bhedase,

The solution is remove the actual finish date from the field, make sure the % of completion is not equal to 100 and remaining duration is not equal to 0.

Any of the above 3 will cause the problem but they are input incorrectly only

Well, Your suppose to remove the relationships(predecessors) of the completed activities so your critical path will start at Data Date. Right? Try...

Both critical path and longest path start on data date.

What is critical is by your defined value setting to total float.

So, does it mean LONGEST PATH doesn’t start on the data date.

Is it?

Deb,

You apparently have the critical path defined as, "the longest path." If an activity on the longest path was completed out-of-sequence (before logically preceding work was complete,) then this completed activity remains on the longest path in order to show the continuity of the path.

Hope that this helps. Good luck!

Hello Raviraj,
Checked it , data date is after the completion date , the only thing i noticed is that it is the preceding activity to the critical path.

No Clue Deb,

In a updated program, having actual completion date less than data date, critical path dont show any completed activity.

plz check ur data date and make sure data date is greater activity completion date.

Cheers,

Raviraj
