(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Can someone help me with sample calculation sheets for costs of the different stages of an on-land pipeline project. I understand that prices for individual items will be different in different parts of the world so I am not so much interested in the actual prices as in the different elements that constitute the price calculation sheets. Specifically what type and quantity of equipment, manpower and material are needed for a typical unit of work in each stage of such a project.

Thanks for any help that you might extend me.

Hi Bishwa

I joined this community today and I think I can help you out. I believe you are more concerned about Materials & Machines. I used to work in a water supply project (Long Back). Machinery selection depends on the dia and typr of the pipe. ie we need welding machines for MS pipes and specials for concrete pipes. Excavation machineries will depend on the depth of the trench we might go for. For a sample I will give some requirements. For 1100mm Dia & 5.5m Length Concrete Pipes assuming a trench depth of 2.1m, we need 1 Excavator/JCB, One Mobile Crane, Jack, Pulley & chain, One Compactor (1Ton), One Pipe Fitting Crew consists of 5 Helpers, 4 Plumbers & 1 Chargehand. In normal Soil conditions we can go for 5 to 6 Pipes per day including Excavation, Sand filling (Bedding), Joining & Backfilling. Pipe testing will be a seperate operation and it depends on the test method & Medium we are using and the specs by consultants.

Thanks, Kishor, for your response. I am looking for some guidance on how to calculate unit prices for a typical pipeline carrying petroleum products - standard steel pipes, 12" diameter, terrain hilly with some stream crossings, trench depth upto 1.2m in sometime rocky sometime sandy-clay soils. What I need to know, I guess, is what will be typical crews (person and equipment) for the different aspects of the pipeline installation process - stringing, excavating, welding, etc. and what might be the expected daily outputs for these crews. The project is in Ecuador (South America) in a place where the climate is usually mildly cold with frequent rains.
