Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

HI

I wonder if anyone has experienced the same problem that we are getting here and that is that some of our ACTUAL Finish dates are disappearing from our schedule.   During our progress updating period we check the box and input the date that an activity actually finishes on; however when we come to the next updating period we discover that some of these dates have disappeared, although the % complete stays at 100%.   Has anyone come across this and do they have any idea why this is happening.

Thanks

George

George

It happened to me once, and the issue was that when I imported the resource budget from excel,

I did not input the actual unit, now whenever I import, I made sure for completed tasks, the actual unit = budget at completion.

George,

Have you been manually updating the Planned Finish field (especially using Global Change?)  This could account for the behavior of your schedule.

Hi John

It happens for two if us who are working in the same database, i will need to check the rest of the company and I can do that in Monday.  My feeling is that its something to do with our set up.  I will do a company wide check on Monday and come back.

also,

do this happen when another planner with a different login progresses your project or is it just your login?

I am trying to figure if the problem lies with your login or it is global.

if its just your login then we need to look at your user preference settings, if its everybody then it could be a global setting

OR

it could just be a bug.... but we will get back to that later.

does this happen in all projects or just this one?

i have got to say this is one i have never heard of but will try and help you.

have you tried taking a copy of the project and progressing that one to see if you have the same issue?

can you create a new project with a few activities, and progress it to see if you get the same issue.

Hi John

Thanks for coming back to me. I prepared a screenshot to attach but my security level won't let me paste it on here. ( sometimes I really hate IT with a vengance).  I've tried to attach a JPEG for your information

I will need to answer your questions here:

Also, are the activities you have marked as finished displaying that they are finished in the gantt chart?

In the previous months update yes they are showing as complete, but when we move onto the next months update they still show 100% complete but as the tick in the actual finish box has disappeared then the status has changed to "In Progress" and the OCONs have gone back to blue / green from blue last period; also that actual dates have gone and new scheduled dates have replaced them and on the gantt chart itself a small remaining duration of 1 time unit is now showing, where it didn't before.

In effect by loosing the tick in the "actual Finish" box the schedule is behaving as you would expect it to for activities that are not complete.  I just cant understand why the "tick" is disappearing.

Can you put a screen shot of the calculations tab of the project for me to view.

Also, are the activities you have marked as finished displaying that they are finished in the gantt chart?

Also, try showing the status icons by the activities (veiw>table font and row>tick show icons) do the finished activities stay blue or go back to blue and green?

Hi Ronald

Thanks for coming back to me.

The task types are "Task Dependant" and the resoureces are all showing 0 resources remaining; in fact they are just behaving as you would expect with the exception that when I reopen the schedule after updating, i often find that some of the actual dates that I have put in have disappeared but the progress is recorder correctly at 100% and the remaining resources are at zero.     Normally I  would not bother too much about this but my client has now asked for a variance report between the baseline planned dates and the actual achieved dates  ( which keep disappearing).

Thanks and any help or pointers will be greatly appreciated.

George

George,

How about your task resources?  Are they incomplete? What type of activity type is set?  I am not positive, but this may be the avenue to pursue investigations.  Good luck and let us know the outcome!
