Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Guys,

Can anyone refresh my memory? What is the difference between a Provisional Sum and a PC Sum?

I used to know the answer but the passage of time has played havoc with my memory.

I don’t have a contractual problem, just a realisation that I don’t know something now that I did know before.

Cheers.

Yes, Provisional Sum is an amount designated to the contigencies at time of Tendering whereas Prime Cost Sum means a sum designated to work to be executed by a nominated sub-contractor or for materials to be supplied by a supplier

Anthony,

If my equally hazy memory serves me correctly, a “Provisional Sum” is a sum that is provided for work or for costs that cannot be entirely foreseen, defined or detailed at the time of issuing the tender documents, whereas a “Prime Cost Sum” means a sum provided for work or services to be executed by a nominated sub-contractor or for materials or goods to be obtained from a nominated supplier.

Hope this helps,

Stuart
