Mechanical Design / Project Engineer, Hunting Engineering, Numerous

START Date:
March, 1997
END Date:
September, 1999

Hunting Engineering provide electrical & mechanical design solutions to the Ministry of Defence.

Employed to design mechanical elements for the fitting of communications suites into a broad range of military vehicles (often involving undertaking stress calculations with applicable ‘g’ loadings). The role involved all aspects of mechanical design; initial concept, liaison with customer, concept design, final design (and drawings), writing of installation procedures. I had to undergo a six week vetting procedure to obtain MOD security (SC level) clearance. I wrote numerous spreadsheets to automate standard calculations such as beam buckling / bending moments and centre of gravity calculations.

In conjunction with my studies, I designed a departmental database system to monitor works in progress and log previous works. I also tutored senior members of staff in the use of AutoCAD LT 97 and the basic functions of Windows 95. I developed a pull down menu system for AutoCad, containing company’s standards, mechanical parts to various relevant standards. I provided assistance to colleagues experiencing PC related problems. I taught myself to use a 3D modeling package (Pro Engineer V20) during my last six months.
