Senior Project Engineer, Balfour Beatty Power Networks Ltd, Various Masts & Towers Projects

START Date:
March, 1992
END Date:
October, 2004
  • Consistent progression of experience from student engineer to senior project engineer, across various operational departments, including design, within Balfour Beatty Power Networks Ltd.
  • Personally progressed the development, costing and trial of an innovative concept in the strengthening of tubular legged towers in partnership with a blue-chip client.
  • Instigated and created the Department’s overall planning programme.
  • Created generic, and specific work procedures and risk assessments. Produced the original RF (Radio Frequency) Policy for BBPNL. Successfully constructed a procedure specifically designed for working with a key client (so successful, that the client adopted the procedure for all their other contractors).
  • Selected to project manage the installation of multiple cell sites for mobile phone networks in the South-East of England, whereby quality was a major issue.
  • Specifically chosen to conduct a major tower inspection for PDO (Shell) in Oman. Consequently, substantially reduced the contract costs, by providing a complete service of surveying, visual inspection, earth testing, and production of in-depth reports. Therefore, vastly decreasing the budgeted contract time-span.
  • Orchestrated the programming, and installation of a series of Hybrid (timber, steel and GRP (glass reinforced plastic) towers for the Royal Air Force. Transformed the contract from loss into profit, involving tendering for, and winning additional works worth 10% of contract turnover.
  • Substantially reduced the time taken to produce presentation calculations for the design of new BBPNL towers, and foundations, by developing new design programs using an off-the-shelf software package - Mathcad.
