Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Greetings fellow planners!

This is my first thread so please be "extra" helpful.

I am new to using P3 and therefore a bit of a thickie!!
The problem I have is I have just done my first updated progress on a reasonably large programme (excess of 3900 activities) and when I try to re-schedule an error message says "PROJ environment too long".

What the Sam Hill does this mean?? Swift reply will be much appreciated before panic sets in- DONT PANIC!

PS I don’t have the manual if this is a dumb question!

Thanks folks,

Mark

Thanks Mal & Ron,

Yes you guys were right the filepath was too long!

I had copied the project into new sub-folders prior to updating and that caused the problem.

Man I though this P3 was meant to be the dogs danglies but I feel like I have been transported back to my 1987 computer studies classes! LIST, GOTO, RUN etc ha ha!

Thank God for Planning Planet!

PS I am trying to get my company to purchase P6 at the mo perhaps that will be the dogs proverbials.

Cheers,
Mark

P3 is built on the 16-bit path rule. This means that all drive:directory\file names must be less than a total of 64 characters in length. Some companies get around this problem using logical directories where drive H: really stands for a long string of subfolder names. It is better to just only use 8-character (or less) directory names and not nest the directories too deeply. Good luck!

Your file path is too long.
Relocate you P3 files so that the file path is shorter.
Not to sure but some thing less than 32 characters seems to come to mind

Cheers
