Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi Samar,

To import Excel in P3 is an easy task but you need to have a better understanding of the structure and how it works.

If you are using P3 then the format you need to use are wks, wk1 and dbf. All of these are accessible in Excel. First you need to export the format and all relative fields that you need to import and follow this format. Open it in Excel and modified/ update for all necessary information you want to import. Save as same format as you open it. Use P3 project -> utility -> import functions and see how it work. Try to experiment to have more technical knowledge on this area.

For PM5, P3e or enterprise version, first export the format and necessary field that you required to update or import and follow the wizard as it prompted. Open the exported excel format and update for all information you need to import and save. Run the File -> export function on your P3e menu and follow the wizard and see the result. If you are updating, activities, relationship, resources avoid importing it at the same time otherwise you will not happy on the result as it all sitting on different tables on PMDB database. Import it one by one to have a better result.

If you require more information on this function please refer to admin manual of P3e, PM5 under Import/ Export topic.

Have all the best and good luck.

Regards,
Rodel

OK Samar,

First of all this category is for P5 not P3.
Second,
1- U have to save the xls file as a "wks, wk1 or dbf" file.
2- After that open the P3 schedule, click on "Tools" --> "Project Utilities" --> "Import".
3- Click on "Add" and then name the report and click on Add.
4- After that type name of the "wks, wk1 or dbf" file that u want to import (name of the file must contain its extension).

That’s all.

Regards,
Karim

Hi samar

It all depends on your user rights, it you have superuser rights then should be quite easy just use the wizard.

However you will not be able to carry out this task on normal user rights.

Depends on how secure the database is at the company.
