Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

What inputs do I need from Engineering to Procurement in an EPC schedule?

I need to link the Engineering portion of an EPC schedule of an oil & gas project to the Procurement portion where I have tagged equipments and bulk materials. The first activity of the Procurement portion for each purchase order is "Issue RFQ" (Request for Quotation). I need a predecessor from the engineering portion so that I can link it to this activity ("Issue RFQ") for the following items:

Tagged Equipments:

- Vessels

- Pumps

- Generators / Compressors

Bulk Materials:

- Piping

- Structural steel

- Electrical bulk

- Valves

In other words, what input / deliverable / document do I need for each of these items from Engineering so that Procurement can issue the corresponding request for quotation. Thank you very much in advance.

Ideally, it should be Approved For Construction or Issued for Construction details, specifications, drawings etc.

However, sometimes (or perhaps most of the time) detailed engineering needs inputs from suppliers or manufacturers themselves who were the only ones that knows the exact specifications of what they were manufacturing especially for special equipment, but then again, it will go through the process until issued and or approved for construction.

For a Planner or Scheduler, you just ask your Engineering for a list of items/ equipment that need to be procured (i.e. long lead items).
