Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi everyone,

I've never created new topics in any of planning forums, but this time I thought to give it a try, and hopefully you will be able to help/advise/guide me with the quesion I have..

I'm looking for some kind of a list of major engineering deliverable/activity dependancies for Oil & Gas projects (FEED, Detail Design, EPC), i.e. what comes first (P&IDs, PFDs etc) and what comes after or before (logic network). I realize these dependancies can be project specific, but maybe there are some basic standard rules to follow?

To be honest, I am not even sure whether or not this "list" actually exists. As far as I know this knowledge comes with years of experience. But I'd appreciate it very much if someone could give me at least something to start with..

All the best

Samir

Dear Samir,

As a rule, the PFDs(process flow diagrams) should drive the design, followed by p &Ids(Piping & instrument drawings), before the Civil structural can come in to finalize. In construction however, it is a different kettle of fish as civil and structural often times preceed in most cases. If you need a prototype schedule as a guide, please endeavour to keep in touch and you will be properly guided.

Hi Samir,

The deliverables are the end product in the form of Drawings, Data Sheets, Calculations and Material Specifications.

There are sevaral phases or stages in the process and it involves various disciplines, the 1st stage is the engineering part where the Process Engineers develop the PFDs and P&IDs and this process involves pipe & equipment sizing and material specifications to meet the design criteria or output. Another discipline will design the instrumentation and control and of course this will be incorporated in the P&IDs. The 2nd stage involves the design of the Piping General Arrangement and and subsequently the detailed design (Piping Isometrics)

Based on the 1st and 2nd stage and other project requirements, the Electrical Discipline will develop the One Line Diagrams for power supply and this may include HV and LV and ELV systems.

The Civil and Structural discipline will design the foundations and structural support based on the loading and the general piping arrangement. It maybe in the form of pipe racks (concrete or structural steel) or pipe sleepers or equipment pads or any ancilliary buildings (Switchgear Bldg and/or Control Bldg).

The Architectural discipline will design the building and they are mostly concern with aesthetics and finally the Building Services

It woud be nice to develop a flow chart but right now, I do not have the luxury of time.

Best regards,

Daniel
