Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi All,

I would be most appreciative for any help with the following.

I am a planner working for Building Construction Company. We are branching out into new territory and consequently i have been tasked with producing a programme for the Rail aspect of the works. I have absolutely no experience of this and would appreciate any help. Ideally if someone could point me in the direction of a good website / book that explains rail building techniques, constraints and considerations i would be most grateful. Or possibly an example programme?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Adam

Mike,

We are dealing with new lines next to live plus maintenance / repair of the existing. I think it will be the "possessions" that ultimatley drive the programme, even though its a private rail line (power station).

Thanks for the advise.

Regards,

Adam

Hi Adam

A typical programme will not help as all rail works are unique.

There is nothing special about rail works - its just like a road with metal strips on it.

Particular problems arise if you are dealing with live lines when a complex series of "possessions" apply.

You will need specialist advice for the signalling but the rest is basically a bulk earthworks operation.

I have found that Asta PowerProject in "Task per Line" mode is best suited for this type of planning.

Also all your staff and operatives have to have Rail Safety Certificates and training if they are to visist trackside.

Best regards
