Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi guys,

I feel that it would be nice to hear other planners talk about the projects that they are working on, the unique features about their projects, the problems that they have faced during the projects, the specific planning related problems that they have encountered and so on...

I feel this would be a learning experience for all the planners who vist this site regularly and would form a database which planners can access when faced with problems on projects. I feel that Planning planet provides the best forum for such an effort. All that needs to be done is to encourage the planner members to write in breifs about the projects that they have done and the projects they are working on currently along with their learning experiences. The project heads may be categorised under various heads based on specialism. Also it would be nice to have a database of other interesting projects which are coming up around the world and a list of new projects in the pipeline.

I invite other planners to share their views in this regard.

Aneez,

Yours is a very good idea. Indeed at the PEo, we have implemented exactlty this. We have a Planning Case Studies section where you will find details of projects and how they were planned. These include an as-built / actual programme and photographs of the project also.

You can see this by clicking on this link.... Planning Engineers Organisation - Planning Case Studies

Whilst this section of the PEO is still quite new, it is being added to regularly.

Thanks Chris.

I do agree that some information regarding the project could be sensitive in nature. However the idea is to have sufficient information regarding the planning process for various types of projects. You tell me that you are following this practice for IT projects. Even I know a couple of construction companies that set out to implement this procedure. However I am not aware of how far they have been successful in this.

Aneez,

This is a really sound idea. We have implemented this in the organisation I work for. All projects contribute, in exactly the way you describe, the unique features of the project, problems encountered and their solutions. Also the things that went better than expected and why this happened. All this information is held on a database and is available to our project teams.

Unfortunately, some of our projects are extremely sensitive and we would not be able to make this information available to a wider audience. However if, as you suggested, Planning Planet were to make a database available, so that members could input the useful things that they had learned from their projects, this could only benefit the PP community.

First rate idea!
