Head of Programme Controls, Crossrail Ltd, Crossrail Project

START Date:
June, 2015

I joined Crossrail in June 2015 where I am directly accountable for ensuring visibility and accuracy of programme performance data, and providing the Executive Leadership with the information they need in order to manage the programme and maintain their focus in the right areas. Having joined an already established world-class team, my primary focus in the first 6 months has been to review and evolve the Controls function to ensure that it is ‘fit-for-purpose’ for the remainder of the duration of the works. In these months, we have;

  • Undertaken strategic rebaselines in line with commercial agreements necessary to progress the works,
  • Implemented Earned Schedule to augment the existing earned value regime,
  • Implemented a ‘substantive’ earned value measure to provide better visibility of performance where commercial negotiations are anticipated to take a considerable amount of time, thus rendering existing EV data meaningless,
  • Re-designed and launched new project dashboards to improve efficiency in preparation of the dashboards, capitalising on centrally held data to reduce time and effort at site,
  • Implemented a programme-wide cost reduction exercise to drive efficiencies,
  • Re-launched the Six Sigma Oversight Committee to coordinate and review improvement initiatives,
  • Authored and launched the first wave of Crossrail’s Learning Legacy website (http://learninglegacy.crossrail.co.uk) to help encourage the capturing of industry best practice and learning experiences.
