PROJECT DESCRIPTION (ARNOT CAPACITY INCREASE PROJECT)

Arnot capacity increase project (ACIP), Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Project description The project involves the extensive refurbishment of the Arnot power station in order to meet the increasing demand for power in South Africa.

Arnot has six 350-MW units, making up a total installed capacity of 2 100 MW. The aim is to increase the capacity of each unit to 400 MW, while at the same time extending the station’s lifetime. Value R1,48-billion. Duration The refurbishment of the power station will be completed in 2010. Client Eskom.

Key contract and suppliers Alstom (upgrade of turbines and boilers) Howden (fans), Sulzer (upgrade of existing pumps), VWS Envig (cooling water treatment plant), Process Consultants through Refrained (ceramite burners), Rotek and Steinmuller. Latest developments To date the sedimentation plant has been successfully commissioned and units 2 and 3 have successfully completed their performance tests.

Unit 6 is currently undergoing its commissioning and optimizing phase, leaving three units for the completion of the project. My core duties regarding the project, involve the project planning of new and existing updates of program and budget estimations.

  * Supervision on projects.

  * Helped to incorporate a new safety System for the Arnot ALSTOM group.

  * Contractor time keeping.

  * Day to day planning regarding onsite Activities.

  * Compiling AJT month end report.

  * Compiling Alstom's Weekly Planning report.

  * Reconciliation of statements and Invoices.
