 Mowlem Railways – Construction Manager

 

Promoted to Construction Manager reporting to the Operations Manager, and responsible for managing a team of Engineers, Planners, Works Supervisors and Labour gangs in the delivery of track renewal projects. Liaising with the client and ensuring all areas of work complied with the relevant QA, Standards and H&S systems. Assisting in tendering works through the provision of resourced programmes and methodologies using P3 and Microsoft Project. Construction Projects managed in this role were:

 

  • Isle of ManElectric Railway – Renewal of sections of plainline and S&C on the Isle of Man Electric Railway, using traditional hand laying techniques. Direct Liaison with the Isle of Man Government Railway Transport Engineer. Approx Value £600,000

 

  • Vale of Glamorgan Route Upgrade.- The renewal of four miles of track including the re-railing of a further three miles, between Llantwit Major and Bridgend as part of the Welsh National Assemblies scheme to regenerate the Vale of Glamorgan area. Planning and co-ordination of activities with Civils and Signalling contractors were also undertaken in this project. Approx Value £1.5 Million

 

  • Siemens Train Care Facility, Northampton – reporting to the Senior Project Manager responsible for the construction of a New Train Depot and sidings at Northampton. I Managed the Pway team responsible for the installation of all trackworks and mainline connections. Approx 8km of track and 25No. S&C units were installed. During this project I was involved with the procurement and design of all serviceable and new track materials.
 
Mowlem Railways – Pway Engineer
 
Based in Bristol, Joining the company to work on their re-railing subcontract with AmeySeco, covering the Great Western Region from Reading to Cardiff down to Penzance. Duties included:

 

  • Scoping & planning of re-railing and rail stressing activities
  • Programming of activities and possession requirements using Microsoft Project, feeding the contract P3 Programme
  • Liaising with suppliers of small plant, rail plant and labour, ensuring resources are ordered and delivered on time.
  • Managing junior technicians and ensuring their works were undertaken to NWR Standards
  • Site Management of possession activities and providing on-call cover for up to five sites within the GWR region.
