ATCO Electric develops regulated distribution and transmission projects and plays a key role in the growth of Canada's oil and gas sector. With more than 85 years’ experience and approximately 2,900 employees, the company builds, operates and maintains a safe, reliable system of approximately 11,000 km of transmission lines and 68,000 km of distribution lines.

 

Job Profile & Major Achievements:

Lead and mentored a team of planners / schedulers developing and maintaining schedules for a large portfolio of over 100 electric transmission capital and maintenance projects worth around C$2 billion, to provide visibility about critical issues impacting timely delivery of projects.

 

Reviewed schedules prepared and updated by direct reports, and assisted them in completing critical path analysis and prospective time impact analysis to quantify the effect of delay events.

 

Provided technical leadership in implementing Microsoft Office Project Server (MOPS) 2010 as an enterprise wide project scheduling solution, integrating business requirements of different functional groups into scheduling templates and completing user acceptance testing.

 

Frequently interfaced with project managers, engineers, senior management, contractors and clients to analyze work plans, set realistic milestones and manage changes throughout the gated project management system. Generated scheduling and resource usage reports for higher management to enable resource planning and strategic decision making.

 

Liaised with senior managers for development of schedule, schedule basis memorandum, schedule management plan and budget for bid packages.

 

Implemented dual earned value management system involving both cost and resource hours. Mapped cost breakdown structure (CBS) with work breakdown structure (WBS), recast estimates, customized resource hours according to discipline estimates and produced progress curves and performance indices.

 

Reviewed engineering drawings, documents, specifications and statements of work as part of schedule building process. Checked project estimates for accuracy in terms of scope, man-hours and alignment with project schedules, and worked with estimators, engineers and project managers to clarify any discrepancies.

 

Created scheduling templates for different functional groups like engineering, regulatory, consultation, procurement, construction and commissioning, complete with logic links and interface points aligned with current PMO processes.

 

Updated resource assignments and man-hours in the templates according to organizational breakdown structure (OBS) in order to provide realistic resource histograms.

 

Lead the development of schedule management processes and procedures in order to streamline mechanism for development of baseline project schedules and effective change management.

 

Supervised production of weekly and monthly schedule progress reports including a list of project deliverables with baseline dates, actual or forecast dates, variances and summary of critical issues affecting key project deliverables.

 

Successfully performed several managerial functions including goal-setting and performance reviews for the direct reports, timesheet review and approval, workload forecasting and assignment and tracking health & safety scorecards.
