Babcock Networks (Electricity Alliance West) – Senior Planner

Responsible for a team of 5 planners to develop and deliver Overhead Line schemes for National Grid within the Alliance framework agreement. Working to the NEC3 contract, all programmes must conform to best practice and all internal and external policies and procedures.

Using Primavera P6 to monitor progress, critical path analysis, SPI reporting, Earned Value Management and resource profiling as well as producing impacted and mitigated programmes used in the compensation event process.

Supporting the planning manager, conducting monthly Earned Value audits ensuring data integrity both within the programme and monthly reporting outputs to both the Alliance and to National Grid.

Also providing personal development, guidance and mentoring to the planning team.

From November 2013 I performed the same role at Babcock International, Network Engineering’s Head Office initially preparing tender submissions for Scottish Power, Scottish & Southern and Western Power.

Babcock Networks – Planning Engineer

Reporting into the Planning Manager, initially responsible for producing tender plans and, following contract award, developing into a site construction programme. Working closely with the tendering and estimating department to ensure that programme tasks reflected achievable durations, resource and accurate costs to enable submission of a competitive tender.

Following a successful contract award, focus turned to advancing the tender programme for site construction. This was integrated with a design programme, procurement details and lead times and site specific data. The programmes were tracked against actual progress and costs monitored alongside budgeted values at tender stage.

Since the commencement in 2007 of Babcock Networks’ partnership with eDF Energy, I had overseen the planning and programming function in our office in Bury St Edmunds. Other responsibilities include monitoring resource requirements and highlighting shortfalls, discussing outage requirements with customers and taking an active role in the company’s IFS user group.

From January 2010, an initial seconded to The Electricity Alliance West led to my position being made permanent the following August. During the first five months I had taken ownership of planning and programming the development phase of National Grid’s future overhead line schemes and following this period I began to look after the construction phases. The role involved liaising closely with the appointed Project Manager, Development Engineer, Quantity Surveyor and Estimator to ensure all programmes are developed, fully cost loaded and resourced with an achievable completion date and in line with all current policies and procedures. Monthly updates with all relevant colleagues are necessary to ensure continued progressed reporting at each month end.
