Hello

I'm interested in applying a cost at the WBS element (not task) level that I could then produce cost histograms and curves from. I see that one can enter Budgets and a spending plan for a particular element but I do not see where you can produce a curve from the result. The reports handle tabular analysis but I did not see either a way with profiles or a tabular monthly cash flow (that I could take to excel) using the WBS budgets. Any ideas out there?

Amit

Thanks for your help. Your solution will work perfectly for what I am doing. I did not realize that the WBS headers were not summaries and that summaries had to be created like LOE's.

Thanks again

Hi Steve,

As amit say create WBS Summary Activity and load all resources there.

Hi,

You can either use WBS Summary Activity or Level of Effort (LOE) activity for monitoring cost at WBS level.

1) Add a WBS summary activity in the WBS where you want to monitor cost.

2) Assign a Resource say "Cost" with a per unit cost as 1$

3) If the total cost for the WBS is 10,000 $ then assign 10,000 as budgeted units

4) but the earned value might not be directly correlated to your work as the spread for the cost would be uniform over the duration of the WBS

I think you can only assigne resources at WBS level using P6 Web. Other possible alternative is to create a WBS task to which you can assign resources.

I can't see where you can assign a resource to a WBS element. The issue is not at the task level within a WBS element but at the element level. When I click on a WBS element..say..extterior skin. the resource assignment option is grayed out. I guess the better question is can you assign resources to WBS elements or only to the tasks that are within an element?

Hi Steve,

On the left of the window click on Assignment. Organize your Resources as you wish to and define the Timescale by Year/Month. Right click the right pane to display the Spreadsheet Field. When done, Select the Top Level>Copy>paste to excel. Your done.

Hope this will help.
