Beware, before installating P6 version 7 you must know that there is a major bug withn the new version.
When displaying resource histograms in previous versions of P6 there was a function which enabled you to calculate (and display) the average units per time period by dividing the interval totals by a number. This was a very handy feature for displaying total hours per day as total people per day (For example 8 hours per day divided by 8 = 1 person per day)
THIS FEATURE NO LONGER WORKS IN P6 VERSION 7.
The settings box is there as usual, however the setting does not work!
Oracle Primaveras Global Customer Support Desk recognise this and give their "apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused". They provided no offer of a solution or work-around for this error when we contacted them about this.
We have large volumes of reports which require this function to work to display accurate units in our histograms. For Oracle Primavera to release a supposed new and improved version of P6 which has major errors within already existing features is unnacceptable and highly frustrating for users who expect this software to be of a high quality.
As planners we depend on this software to produce our information and our work, and our managers and clients in turn depend on the information we produce for them. Software flaws like this are more than just an "inconevience", they can result in loss of time, loss of productivity, and loss of money. Whats more it has been up to us to discover these flaws ourselves by stumbling upon them in the middle of our busy days.
There are some features in P6 version 7 which are improved and very convenient. Please be aware before installing though that there a bugs. This is the first one that we have come across however we have no confidence that it will be the last.
