Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Dear All
over the last 2months i have been using paul e harris book on project planning using primavera p6 ( i actually have the software on my laptop) so its easy for me to play with the interface and follow the examples set in the book. my query is these:

is it possible to break through into project planning world by using the book alone?

what are the things i need to learn more & where to have a breakthrough into project planning .

are the examples described in the book same things that happen in a real day to day work of a planner?

what can i do to build up more confidence in project planning?

i will really appreciate if i can get more info on this
am looking for tips on how to break even

Hi Victor

Use your experience in civil engineering to practice your software techniques.

Look at a recent project and build it up in your mind.

Then transfer the tasks and logic to the software until the project is built.

That is all a planner has to do.

Planners like to shroud what is a very simple process with arcane and mystic words and acronyms.

Put your book down and start doing it for real.

Hi Victor

No book - however brilliant - will turn you into a project planner.

You need to know how to build it before you can plan it.

You may be competent enough with the software to schedule someone elses plan but then you would be a scheduler.
