Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Two or more projects in different layout

In P3, you can open a number of projects and each would be open in different layout.

But in P3ec, if you open more than one projects together, all the projects appear in the same layout. Is there a way to open two or more projects in different layouts at the same time?

First select (and/or modify) the layout you want.

Then from the View menu>Show on Bottom>Gantt Chart

Then from the View menu>Show on Top>Activity Network

I’m not sure what kind of "different" view you might want, but you can always put a Gantt layout in the lower screen and a PERT view in the upper, if that would help.

I understand what you are trying to achieve and why, but in P3e the answer is no.

>> In a multi project environment, it is quite natural that you would be working in more than one project at a time.
Yes, that’s why P3e allows you open multiple projects and treat them like one (if you want it to).

>> And it is always good to have a separate layout for various tasks like updating, checking/validating, summarizing etc. and it is not necessary that you would be working in the same stage in all the projects.
Yes, agree.

>> But P3e forces you to work only one way.
Why? You can create unlimited views.

>> This is even more distinct when you want to work in two projects with different structure.
Create two different views and filter out the project(s) you don’t want to see. Since filters are linked to layouts you won’t even notice it is filtering, and you can create a view that accommodates the structure of the remaining project.

I would not waste any time in trying to make P3e behave like P3 because that’s not how it was designed.

If you open two or more projects in P3e they will behave like one. Attaching a filter to the layout will allow you view only one specific project; so for each layout you can create your own project filters.

P.S. I’m not entirely sure why you would want to do this by the way.
